Subsea Lunch and Learn Recap
On Thursday, August 9th, Weatherford's Production Optimization group, eP, hosted a lunch and learn seminar on Subsea Systems in conjunction with the Houston chapter of the Society of Underwater Technology (SUT). Geert Kooi, the business development manager for subsea products, delivered the presentation to a group of industry professionals. "Control Beneath the Waves" highlighted current trends in the industry, an overview of hardware tools and methods for subsea production, and how eP can help operators achieve better control and optimize production although today's production zones are pushed into deeper and more challenging offshore locations. Besides the valuable information imparted and a tasty lunch, attendees had the opportunity to network and share ideas with peers and other industry professionals.

On May 1, 2007 eP announced the worldwide release of WellFlo software version 4.0. The well engineering software application was completely redesigned to function more intuitively, provide more powerful features, closely match constructed well models to reality, and present a richer graphical user interface (GUI) which empowers users to do more with the models and data once acquired.
WellFlo 4.0 software works with naturally flowing well applications, gas and condensate wells, pipeline and surface equipment. It provides modeling, design and analysis for electric submersible pumps(ESP) and gas lift, inflow and outflow performance modeling and other applications. The software was specifically designed to aid petroleum engineers with five basic well completion and production engineering functions: configuration, tuning, analysis, design and output.

Unique Workflow-Based Performance
This version of the WellFlo program incorporates both software technology advances and recent progress in well design. The application was reengineered to enhance the workflow-based architecture. Rather than forcing users to adapt to the software’s needs, the product functions how they actually would engineer a well. The interface is set up in such a manner that the familiar Windows®-based environments and rigorous analysis tools can be applied in ways the engineer feels most comfortable working. New user-interface enhancements include intuitive navigation tools placed in easy “reach” locations, powerful charting capabilities and wizard-based data imports.
The software user is always one or two clicks away from external data or well tools. Built-in hooks allow this version of WellFlo software to link to real-time data and integrate with other engineering applications such as reservoir modeling packages and in-house software applications.
Weatherford obtained WellFlo software, a petroleum engineering and analysis software suite component, as port of the acquisition of Edinburgh Petroleum Services (EPS). Today, these products are bringing expanded capabilities and sales on a global scale.
eP’s lead software designer, Metin Gokdemir adds, “WellFlo 4.0 software suite was developed both as a product and a platform that we will base future design and analysis tools upon. We are all excited with the outcome and where we can go from here.”
Weatherford International Ltd. Wins "The Best Data Management Solution Award" for LOWIS Life-of-the-Well Information System at the 2006 World Oil Awards
World Oil® magazine announced the eleven winners of the fifth annual World Oil Awards at a black-tie gala dinner last night in Houston, Texas. The winner of “The Best Data Management Solution Award” was Weatherford International Ltd. for their LOWIS Life-of-the-Well Information System. The dinner, attended by close to 350 industry leaders, also benefited three universities that offer programs leading to careers in the petroleum industry.
Weatherford created the Life-of-the-well Information system (LOWIS) to reduce well service time, drive down costs, and evaluate and manage failures in light of historical data. Collaborating with Chevron and Occidental Petroleum, Weatherford created software that includes everything from well surveillance, failure analysis, and work-plan services to scorecard reporting. Weatherford International Ltd. accepted this award from Rusty Meador, President and CEO of Gulf Publishing Company.

This program garnered hundreds of submissions from points around the globe. A third-party Advisory Board, comprised of 22 senior industry executives and academics and The Next Generation Committee, comprised of up-and-coming leaders in the petroleum industry who are recent graduates, judged the short list of nominees.

eProduction Solutions csLIFT/LOWIS Support Partner Program
eProduction Solutions’ (eP’s) artificial lift optimization products, csLIFT and LOWIS, have a long history of working with programmable logic controller (PLC), remote terminal unit (RTU), and controller manufacturers to provide conventional customers with an integrated solution. Appendix A shows the current list of hardware products that are supported by the software. The eP support partner program creates a complementary and valuable relationship with hardware manufacturers to provide seamless integrated solutions.
The support partner program allows you to:
Collaborate with eP to provide seamless integration of devices
Influence the software solution that fully exploits hardware capabilities
Leverage experience in remote device operation and lift optimization techniques
Sustain our technology relationships and support mutual customers with technical and engineering avenues
Receive support from the highest levels within eP
Work with eP under the protection of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)
There are two tiers to the support partner program.
Tier 1: Functional Support Program
Tier 2: Extended Support Program
The purpose of this tier is to ensure that the hardware device has the minimal required support in the software suite of products. It would allow a customer to do the following:
Purchase the device from the manufacturer
Allow a user to establish communications with the device
Provide basic functionality as necessary for the software application to function
The limitations of this tier are that the software will not support extended functionality that might be present in the hardware device. Also, there are no factory or site acceptance tests that are conducted in this program.
Partner Requirements
Sharing of public domain register maps
Documentation support to understand register maps
Provide help in answering questions related to register maps, usage, and details required to implement public domain features
Cost
There is no cost to the partner to join the support program. There is cost associated with device support. Cost for device support will be quoted based upon the level of application support that is required.
Benefits
eP publishes a list of supported device types to its customers and your device will be on the supported list. Being a supported device will enable partners to sell their hardware solution to current and future software customers.
The purpose of this tier is to provide a very tight integration between the hardware and software products. It would allow the user to configure and use some of the extended hardware features present in the hardware device. The partner and members of the software group will work in a collaborative manner to achieve the following:
Mutually agreed upon specifications on what device functionality will be supported
Factory acceptance test at eP’s facility to ensure that the device is properly supported
As more features are added to the hardware device, it will make it easier for the software to be updated in a timely manner to support the new features that are added
Partner Requirements
Access to device, user manual, and knowledgeable resources
Execution of an NDA for intellectual property protection
Participation in building specifications and factory acceptance testing
Cost
There is no cost for joining the extended support program. Cost for initial and on going device support will be based upon the level of effort that is required.
Benefits
eP publishes a list of supported device types to its customers and your device will be on the supported list. Being a supported device will enable partners to sell their hardware solution to current and future software customers. Also, members of the extended support program will be given priority for device support and resolution of support issues in the field.
Optical Multiphase Flowmeter Wins World Oil Award
On October 20, 2005, World Oil magazine announced Weatherford’s optical
multiphase flowmeter as the winner of their Best Production Technology Award.
Weatherford was chosen above several other industry peers to receive this award.
The award was announced at a dinner gala hosted by Gulf Publishing in Houston,
Texas with approximately 400 industry peers in attendance. Nine other categories
were also awarded of which Weatherford was a finalist in two other segments
including Best Completion Award for its 7-in. expandable completion system and
the New Horizons Idea Award for eProduction Solutions’ Red Eye® 2G water-cut
meter.
"The oil and gas industry is at a turning point. Against a backdrop of constrained supplies and an aging
workforce, the oil and gas industry continues to achieve unprecedented technological breakthroughs and
demonstrate inspired leadership to help meet global demand for hydrocarbons," noted John "Rusty" Meador,

Optical Flowmeter Receives Prestigious OTC Spotlight Award
On Monday, May 2nd, Weatherford/eProduction Solutions was awarded the OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award for the Optical Flowmeter at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas. In this, its second year, the Spotlight Award was bestowed on 14 new technologies. This is the second consecutive win for Weatherford - last year, we received the Spotlight award for the Simply Intelligent™ Multi-zone Intelligent Completion System.
Lee Colley, Dharmesh Mehta, E.J. Zisk, and Espen Johansen were on hand to receive the award. The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Rod Allan, OTC 2005 Chairman.
Prior to the ceremony, Mr. Colley stated, "Weatherford is pleased to have been awarded for a second consecutive year. The continued success of our Simply Intelligent technologies is a testament not only to accomplishments by our expert engineering team and Weatherford's commitment to revolutionary technology developments, but also to the evolution of our industry. The Weatherford Flowmeter is another significant technological development which aims at improving reservoir management and production optimization. Weatherford/eP's downhole optical single- and multiphase flowmeters provide accurate, real-time downhole flow measurement of liquid and/or gas. They are designed for permanent downhole installation and are deployed as part of the production tubing during the completion. Our flowmeter is the first to use sonar optical technology, which provides greater accuracy, reliability and stability than traditional electronic flowmeters. It features an innovative array of spatially distributed fiber optic-based sensors to measure the propagation of pressures associated with turbulent flows and acoustic signals in the flow. Additional benefits of the flowmeter include: zonal production allocation, early identification of production decline, direct determination of the productivity index, and fewer surface well tests and surface facilities.
The OTC award program honors the most innovative and significant offshore developments during the year. Recipients of this award demonstrate the increasing technical edge that is required to explore and produce in ever-increasing water depths, and more remote and hostile environments.
Red Eye® 2G Water-cut Meter Receives Hart's Meritorious Engineering Award
Weatherford's production optimization company, eP, was presented with the prestigious 2005 Special Meritorious Award from Hart's E&P. The award for the Red Eye 2G water-cut meter was presented at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston last week.
Joel Rodger, John Lievois, and Dharmesh Mehta were on hand to receive the award from Bill Pike, Harts' Editor in Chief.
The award program honors engineering excellence and achievement in every segment of the petroleum industry. It recognizes new products and technologies that offer innovation in concept, design, and application. The sixteen winning entries represent techniques and technologies that are most likely to solve costly problems and improve exploration, drilling and production efficiency, and profitability.
The original Red Eye (1G) water-cut meter measures the volumetric proportion of oil in a mixture of petroleum and water by passing a beam of infrared light that is absorbed by oil but not water through the stream. It was designed specifically for high water cut measurements and its performance in that condition stands unmatched in the industry.
The Red Eye 2G extends the measurement performance range to wide-range measurements (low-water cut to high-water cut) by simultaneously measuring four infrared wavelengths. The 2G system is the only system that simultaneously measures multiple infrared wavelengths to monitor water, condensate, and oil-absorbent peaks. These additional frequencies allow the meter to monitor all levels of water and oil as well as nullify scattering effects. Similar to the original Red Eye (1G) water-cut meter, the 2G operates completely independent of water salinity and has the lowest sensitivity to entrained free gas of any meter on the market. Boasting accuracy within 0.25% at high water fractions and 1% in low water-cut flow streams, the meter delivers accurate real-time readings across a broad range of water fractions and enables more efficient production management. That makes the 2G meter particularly suitable in fields with variable water fractions.
