Ameriven S.A. Integral Solution Project

Ameriven is a strategy alliance between three important worldwide oil companies, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips and PDVSA. This company was formed to exploit the Hamaca field, called Bare, which is located in the Venezuelan Middle East. The nearest city to this field is El Tigre located 50-Km northeast from Bare Operation Center (COB).

The oil field is arranged with pads of wells around multiphase pumping stations (MPP); each MPP collects the diluted crude oil (DCO) from six to eight pads and pumps it to COB.

The artificial lift system used in the field is PCP.

The System

SCADA Host

The system consists of a csLift host server located at COB, which gathers data from 93 eP VFDs, 26 Centrilift VFDs, 39 eP Wellpad Manager Systems (WPMS), 8 Nilsen XPIOs, 11 Allen Bradley Control Logix and 2 CS7X Welltest Controllers. The whole system communicates via fiber optic, which runs from COB to all of the wellpads.

The csLift host provides an in-office monitor and control of all the oil field to the users. The applications installed are:

  • csMonitor: to gather data from all RTUs
  • csPCP: to monitor and control all VFDs
  • csWelltest: to control and record the well tests

In addition, csLift interfaces with Ameriven´s main data base system (ORACLE) to provide the field information needed to generate the daily production reports and feed other engineering applications.

Wellpads

There are two different architectures for the wellpads, one based on an Allen Bradley PLC and the other on a CS7X Well Test Controller. In each case the controller sets and maintains the well´s diluent injection rate and gathers the well test data from a multiphase flow meter.

The surface equipment (data loggers and VFDs) are skid-mounted, with a single data logger and three VFDs per skid. Each data logger gathers the downhole information (intake and discharge pressures and temperatures) from subsurface sensors and VFD readings from each of the wells.

Networking

The connectivity between the host and the field equipment is as follows:

  • eP WPMS: Connected through an ethernet communication port using Modbus TCP/IP.
  • Centrilift VFD and Nilson XPIO: Connected through an IP/serial bridge to its Modbus communication port.
  • ePAC VFD: Connected through the WPMS to its Modbus communication port.

There is one network switch at each wellpad to make the connectivity between the UTP cables running from the field equipment and the fiber optic that runs all the way to COB.

Future Wellpad Plans

So far, Ameriven has built 13 wellpads and 119 wells, the complete project is 72 wellpads and around 500 wells. All wells will be integrated to this system.

eP’s Solution

Design, integration and commission of a complete production automation system from downhole sensors to the SCADA host, including PCP controllers, data loggers, RTUs, PLCs, and any other facility to monitor and control production gathering. Providing hardware products, software products, and systems engineered, integrated, manufactured, and tested in-house.

eProduction Solutions, Inc. – The Solution

eP provides solutions that go beyond SCADA to optimally operate oil and gas field operations. eP’s totally integrated automation solutions are composed of compatible “best of breed” products that are installed, upgraded, and serviced by one company. These products provide sophisticated analysis, integral design capabilities, real-time monitoring, and accurate control.

The solution’s unique design provides intelligence at the wellhead and at the desktop. Wellhead intelligence assures immediate reaction to changes in the well while the desktop intelligence provides detailed analysis and fine tuning for optimal operations.

eP believes that when companies have the right people with complete, timely information working on solutions, they will find ways to improve productivity and lessen future problems. By using eP’s Integrated Decision Management System, problem solving, potential problem identification, and shared decision making are both efficient and effective.
